UPDATE: Fit for the Future Capital Campaign 

December 2023

The rink enhancement project is 98% complete with the community’s first outdoor Pickleball and Basketball courts opening for play this past September.

​

With the coming of the winter, we are now preparing the rink surface for an exceptional ice skating experience. Volunteers and VB Public Works are hard at work, gradually building up the ice surface, despite a lack of cooperation from Mother Nature.  It is believed that the skating surface will be is use before Christmas. 

​

The Interim Fitness Facility opened at the East Beaches Social Scene on December 1.  Users are enjoying a well-equipped facility featuring all new equipment.  Membership has exceeded expectations with close to 50 fitness enthusiasts signing up.

​

This past June, the membership of the Beaches Community Centre voted unanimously to proceed with a campaign to raise funds for an expansion of the existing building, to accommodate a full service, modern fitness facility.

​

While the Ask Committee reached out to potential donors, a Building Expansion Steering Committee was formed, to conduct a process to solicit bids for the design and build of the expansion.  Bids were received recently, and the Steering Committee has submitted recommendations to the BCC Board for their consideration.  A decision from the Board on these recommendations is expected in early January 2024.

It is the intention of the BCC to seek matching funding of private donations and pledges from the Building Sustainable Communities (BSC) provincial government program.  This program was instrumental in the success of the Phase 1 projects (rink enhancement and fitness facility equipment) and hopefully will contribute the Building Expansion.

​
