Changes for Grooming Volunteers for Next Year's Cross Country Ski Season

Most classic trails were groomed this morning. Conditions are fair to good.

Traks in sheltered areas should stand up whereas icy conditions will develope in the open. Stompers trashed the traks on the golf course when it was mild, their footprints froze so the groomer could not set a good trak over them. Anyway you should be able to get in some good skiing before it all melts.

Happy Easter!

After 10 years of trail maintenance and grooming the groomer guy realizes that he must retire soon. He is not reduced to Chair Tai Chi yet but throwing the grooming equipment around is becoming a struggle.

A takeover candidate has emerged who has proven to be a capable and dependable operator. He has also helped with trail maintenance for many years and gets paid by the hug. If you see him with his chainsaw or snippers out you'll know what to do.

Over the years the skiing program has survived solely from generous donations from people like you. Despite its value to the community, the trail network has been developed and maintained without financial help from the government, the RM, or the BCC. To their credit, last year the BCC did step up to promote and collect funds through their website which has proven to be a great asset. Apart from equipment failure, the trail maintenance and grooming program could operate indefinitely on $2000 a year. Hopefully the program will continue.

Thank you for your support!

From John Heppenstall - Beaches Marketing and Communications Chair - Thank you to Ron Ritsema who has tirelessly and selflessly owned the trail grooming for the trails around Beaches Community Centre. Our skiing community is forever grateful.
